Forest certification is the key to allowing Vietnam’s forest products to access demanding markets worldwide, enhancing the value of forests and improving incomes for forest owners. Currently, Vietnam has approximately 200,000 hectares of certified forest under international standards (FSC/PEFC). It is a very modest number compared to the potential of plantation forests in Vietnam (about 4.4 million hectares by the end of 2020). According to the Vietnam Forestry Development Strategy from 2021 to 2030, with a vision to 2050, the goal set for Vietnam’s forestry sector is to reach over 0.5 million hectares of forest under sustainable forest management certification in the 2021-2025 period, and over 01 million hectares in the 2026-2030 period.
