The Xuan Lien Nature Reserve tourism development plan – Thanh Hoa province

Abstract:

Xuan Lien Nature Reserve (NR) was established in 2000, with a total area of 23,815.5 ha, belonging to the administrative boundaries of 5 communes (Bat Mo, Yen Nhan, Luong Son, Xuan Cam, Van Xuan). The vegetation cover of Xuan Nha NR is tropical dense evergreen forests with 3 main types: Tropical monsoon, Subtropical monsoon, and Mixed broadleaf-coniferous sub-tropical monsoon dense evergreen moist forest.  With more than 4,000 hectares of primeval forest, Xuan Lien NR has many rare and precious fauna and flora species listed in the Vietnam Red Book (2007) and the IUCN Red List (2012). In addition, the reserve has many impressive scenes such as Cua Dat lake and the attractive culture of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups. This is an extremely valuable resource that helps develop the ecotourism activities in Xuan Lien. However, for many years, tourism has not been commensurate with its potential.

Hence, the Center for Nature Conservation and Development (CCD) and the Management Board of Xuan Lien NR developed a tourism development plan towards improving people’s livelihood and their awareness of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. 

In the process of plan-making, CCD always orients the community as the main factor in tourism activities. They will have more opportunities to develop, get jobs, and increase their income from tourism. income. Such activities will become effective tools in raising public awareness about nature and biodiversity conservation.
